People often say to me, "you're so patient" but I'm really not any more patient than anyone else and I've always been so interested in the differences between how individual horses learn that finding the right approach for each one has been a fascination.
I was reading a book about Tom Roberts the other day (Go Forward, Dear) and came across this advice on teaching trailer loading:
"Do not attempt this loading lesson unless you have unlimited time. The more you hurry, the longer it takes."
It's a great little book if you get the chance to read it - one of the co-authors is Dr Andrew McLean (who also happens to be on my PhD supervisory team). I'll talk more about this next time.
